Due to demand and countless requests to stock Basic colours, we have started off our range. Hopefully that will keep the angry mob from causing a riot in Darlington.
We have carefully researched prices in the area and believed we could offer the best price on Moda Bella Basic Solids.
We are offering these at £1.90 per 1/4 meter. This brings us in much cheeper than local shops so now you don't have to travel far. We are running the same price in shop as online so no hiked up prices when you come in to our shop.
ps. It is interesting just to play guess what color moda have called the fabric..... What do you think they will be? We particularly like the 'Zen Gray' that we think would have a more appropriate name of 'Cement Gray' but hay we are from the Industrial North East not Texas!
Feel free to make some more colour name suggestions below. (We will send a free meter of fabric if one in particular tickles us!!)
Fanci a Sewing Holiday or a crafty break, We have just what you need.

Lotus In Store Now!!!!!
Elna is proud to introduce the New Elna Lotus. The original Lotus was sold to over one million customers and it is still the only sewing machine displayed in the MOMA in New York.
Taking its lead from the original Elna Lotus this fully computerised new model is packed with innovative features. From the flaps which drift slowly down at the touch of a button and when closed, form a hard protective cover, to the unique spool loading system which is hidden away behind one of the two interactive touch screens. It’s even been designed with a central needle bar for added sewing stability.
Market research determined the most popular 18 stitches, that plenty of built in storage was a must and that an automatic thread trimmer would provide that professional finish. Add to those, a maximum speed controller, an automatic needle threader, a lock stitch feature, a needle up/down facility and a start/stop button and you have the complete package.
This new Lotus is a triumph in simplicity, in elegance of design and in the user friendly concept it embodies. The essentials, nothing more, nothing less.
Our Lotus, First Impression!
on opening the Box, the ELNA Lotus strikes as a machine of quality. it is extremely well made to there high Swiss standard and follows lots of styling tips from its original. it is slightly bigger than the original but is still compact enough for class and very easy to pack up and take with you. one main point not portrayed enough in the literature is the full length free arm with the whole table sliding off when not required.

a wee video of the opening. oooooooh
Hello! Did you miss us? Rumours that the UK Sewing site was commandeered by the Kremlin have been greatly exaggerated. We had a few technical issues, and decided that we could use this as an opportunity to build again from scratch and give you all the best possible online sewing experience. And here we are!
So how about a brief rundown of what's going on in the UK Sewing shop this week?
Like most of the UK, we're gearing up for the Olympics with our special Union Jack Quilt - we're going to be teaching people how to make this in one of our classes at The Old Tailor, so keep an eye on the timetable if you're interested in showing your patriotism this summer in a classy, home-made sort of way:
That one in the window there has generated quite a buzz, we even had a reporter drop in to ask us about it!
And speaking of quilting, we've just got some very cool new summery quilt fabric in the shop, lots of nice pastel colours and particularly great patterns for baby-related shenanigans. We'll have these listed online a.s.a.p., but meanwhile feel free to pop into the shop for a gander:
We're also drinking lots of coffee while we try to keep up with updating all of our products on the new website, including our huge range of YKK zips:
... as well as enough sewing machine thread to reach to the moon and back. Well, almost. Probably. We've got cotton thread and silk thread, Gutermann and Madeira, in every possible colour. No, really:
Well I'd better get back to work. We'll keep this blog updated with what we're upto in and around the shop, so please check back regularly or better yet pop in for a browse and a chat. In the meantime, happy sewing!
